  1. Having trouble with belt breaking for John Deer LX172 lawn mower. Any suggestions or reasons this could be happening?

    • There are several possibilities that may cause your John Deere LX172 mower belt to break. I would recommend you check the following:

      * Be certain that the belt is routing correctly
      * Check the pulleys on the deck and the bearings inside the pully
      * Check the tension arm on the deck and be sure it is fitting level

Let us know if we can help any further.

  2. My L110 mower will start but as soon as I let off on the brake, it goes dead. Would this problem be a faulty brake switch? (JD Part # GY20094)

    • If the tractor starts, but shuts off when the parking brake is released, it is more likely to be the seat switch. The tractor would only start if the parking brake switch were working, and engaged properly. It also would not start if the PTO was engaged. So being that it starts and then shuts off when the brake is released, it leads me to believe that the seat switch is bad, not connected, or not making contact with the seat. Part # for the seat switch is GY20073.

  3. I hit a root and bent the crank shaft on my JS45 mower. This is the first time this has happened to me. Is this common with John Deere push mowers?

I have the engine broken down and the shaft removed but is it worth the time and money or should I just buy a new mower all together?

    • It is possible to bend the crankshaft on any brand of mower if you strike an obstruction like a tree root, water main cap, or a curb.

If you were able to disassemble the engine down to the crankshaft on your own then the machine is definitely worth repair. The crankshaft for your john Deere JS45 engine is part # am130371, retails for $86.99. Depending on the condition of the seals and gaskets they may need to be replaced as well as you reassemble the engine.

You can order your John Deere JS45 crankshaft part with us online or give us a call at 800.255.4054.
